North Sinai Governor Khaled Megawer has firmly denied claims that New Rafah City is intended for the relocation of Palestinians, calling such allegations “completely baseless.”

In a press statement, the governor emphasized that the city is progressing steadily as part of a national development project aimed at reconstruction and the provision of services to residents affected by past conflicts in the area.

“New Rafah is not a staging ground for displacement. It is a vital effort to restore life and offer decent housing and services to Egyptian citizens in North Sinai,” Governor Megawer stated.

The governor outlined ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure in New Rafah, with a particular focus on schools, healthcare centers, and essential public services. He stressed that the city’s development is being closely monitored on a daily basis to ensure high standards of living for all inhabitants.

Megawer reaffirmed the state’s long-term vision for North Sinai, which includes achieving social justice, boosting local development, and stabilizing the region. He also described the rumors linking the project to a potential Palestinian relocation plan as deliberate attempts to distort Egypt’s broader efforts in Sinai.

The statement comes as Cairo continues to reject any Israeli-American proposal to relocate residents of Gaza into Egyptian territory. Egyptian officials have consistently described such plans as a “red line” and a violation of Palestinian rights.
