Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdel Ati, has urged the international community to move “immediately” to the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, saying the first phase is nearly complete.
Speaking in Berlin alongside German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, he reaffirmed Cairo’s firm rejection of any attempt to divide Gaza or separate it from the West Bank.
Abdel Ati and his German counterpart welcomed the recent UN resolution establishing three transitional bodies until December 2027: the Peace Council, the International Stability Force, and the Palestinian Administrative Committee.
On security preparations, Abdel Ati revealed that Egypt is already training Palestinian police personnel on its territory to prevent any security vacuum and has forces ready for rapid deployment. He called on European partners to strengthen support through EUBAM and EUPOL to help prepare Palestinian security cadres and maintain public order.
Regarding reconstruction, the minister said Cairo is coordinating with Washington to set a date for a major international conference co-chaired by Egypt and the United States.
This meeting will be based on the Arab-Islamic reconstruction plan endorsed last March and will involve key actors including Germany and the European Union. The goal, he stressed, is to accelerate Gaza’s early recovery before winter.
