Egypt has officially welcomed the signing of a Declaration of Principles between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda, calling it a major step toward lasting peace, stability, and economic development in Africa’s Great Lakes region.

The agreement, signed in Washington on April 25, 2025, marks a significant turning point in efforts to end years of conflict and tension. Egypt praised the commitment of both parties to resolve disputes peacefully, reduce tensions, and foster a climate of cooperation and trust between their peoples.

"This initiative represents a crucial move towards building peace and unlocking investment opportunities across the region and the entire African continent," Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

Egypt also reaffirmed its dedication to supporting peaceful conflict resolution across Africa, emphasizing the importance of working through the African Union’s mechanisms and regional efforts to secure lasting stability.

The statement highlighted the active role Egypt has played behind the scenes, notably through President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s recent consultations with DRC President Félix Tshisekedi and Rwandan President Paul Kagame earlier this month.

Cairo confirmed its intention to continue pushing for deeper reconciliation, supporting a broad peace process involving all regional players.

"Egypt remains committed to advancing the path of peace and development, ensuring that the fruits of stability are shared by all peoples across the continent," the statement concluded.
