In a shocking display of bias and reckless rhetoric, EU Commissioner Teresa Ribera has ignited outrage by labeling the situation in Gaza as a “genocide” during a speech at Sciences Po Paris on Thursday.

Her inflammatory remarks, the first of their kind from a senior EU executive, expose not only her personal hostility toward Israel but also the dangerous agenda of her political allies in Spain’s Socialist Party (PSOE).

Ribera’s comments are a disgraceful attempt to vilify Israel, pandering to anti-Israel sentiment while ignoring the complexities of the conflict and the terrorist threat posed by Hamas.

Ribera’s claim that the crisis in Gaza constitutes a “genocide” is not just a gross misrepresentation but a deliberate distortion of reality.

By using such a loaded term, she aligns herself with the propaganda of Hamas, a terrorist organization committed to Israel’s destruction.

Israel, a nation defending itself against relentless attacks, has been clear in its efforts to target terrorist infrastructure while minimizing civilian harm, in accordance with international law.

Ribera’s refusal to acknowledge this context reveals either ignorance or a calculated effort to smear Israel for political gain.

Her remarks also betray a deep-seated anti-Israel bias that runs through the veins of the PSOE, led by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.

The party has a long history of hostility toward Israel, consistently prioritizing ideological posturing over truth. Ribera’s statement is not an outlier but a continuation of this toxic legacy, which seeks to demonize Israel at every turn, regardless of the facts.

Her accusation of “genocide” dismisses the thousands of rockets fired by Hamas at Israeli civilians, the use of human shields by terrorists, and the group’s explicit calls for Israel’s annihilation.

To equate Israel’s defensive actions with genocide is not only intellectually dishonest but morally reprehensible.

Israel’s response was swift and justified, condemning Ribera’s “baseless allegations” and accusing her of amplifying Hamas propaganda.

The Israeli government’s statement rightly called out her remarks as a betrayal of truth, highlighting how such rhetoric undermines the EU’s credibility and fuels division.

While some EU nations, like Germany, have upheld Israel’s right to self-defense within the bounds of international law, Ribera and her ilk in Spain seem intent on stoking anti-Israel sentiment for domestic political clout.

Ribera’s comments also expose the EU’s embarrassing inability to present a united front on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

By choosing to sling mud at Israel, she undermines the bloc’s diplomatic integrity and emboldens extremist narratives.

Her speech at Sciences Po was not a call for peace or dialogue but a cynical ploy to score points with anti-Israel factions, all while ignoring the suffering caused by Hamas’s reign of terror in Gaza.

The EU deserves better than commissioners who peddle lies and division. Ribera’s reckless accusation of “genocide” is a stain on her office and a disservice to the principles of fairness and truth.

Instead of fostering constructive dialogue, she has chosen to fan the flames of hatred.
