HSBC in the UAE has become the first market in the bank's global network to launch an upgrade to its Global Money Account, a fully integrated multi-currency account and debit card designed for the way international customers live, earn, travel and support family across borders.
The UAE — one of the world's most international markets, where a majority of residents regularly deal in multiple currencies — was chosen to lead the global rollout, with the proposition expected to reach other HSBC markets over the next one to two years.
Backed by one of the world's most extensive international banking networks, spanning multiple countries and territories, the Global Money Account brings together a multi-currency account and a linked debit card in a single set-up that is ready from the moment a customer is onboarded. With a single IBAN, customers can receive 20 currencies fee-free into their Global Money Account from abroad.
The launch reflects HSBC's broader strategy of positioning the UAE as a testing ground for products tailored to globally mobile customers, given the country's large expatriate population and its role as a regional hub for cross-border finance.
For customers, the upgraded account is designed to simplify what has traditionally been a fragmented experience, managing separate currency accounts, dealing with conversion fees, and navigating multiple cards, by consolidating these functions into one streamlined product.
