Iran's Revolutionary Guards announced Friday they had launched a combined missile and drone offensive against Israel, conducted jointly with Tehran-backed Hezbollah.

The Guards stated in an official communiqué that the operation was launched in the framework of this symbolic occasion , which took on a particularly charged dimension Friday morning after an Israeli airstrike near Tehran hit close to the route of a pro-regime rally, disrupting what was meant to be a show of defiance by the Islamic Republic's supporters.

The joint offensive marks yet another chapter in the rapidly escalating confrontation between Israel and the Iran-Hezbollah axis, as Tehran seeks to demonstrate that despite the devastating losses inflicted by Operation Epic Fury , the US-Israeli strikes launched on February 28, it retains the capacity and the will to strike back.

By framing the attack within the "Day of Support for Palestinians," the Revolutionary Guards are attempting to wrap a military operation in ideological legitimacy, even as Iran's own capital comes under Israeli fire and its supreme leader lies dead.

The message from Tehran is clear: the war goes on. Israel's response is likely to be equally unambiguous.
