The Israeli and Hellenic navies have carried out a joint exercise in the Mediterranean Sea, led by the commanders of both forces.

During the drill, the two navies practised detecting and neutralising maritime threats and operated together as a joint task force. The exercise culminated in the sinking of a hostile vessel with missile fire.

According to the Israeli military, the exercise strengthens operational cooperation between the two countries and enhances their joint ability to respond to emerging threats while safeguarding security and freedom of navigation in the Mediterranean.

The drill comes amid heightened tensions in the eastern Mediterranean, after eastern Libya’s parliament approved a maritime delimitation deal with Turkey this week.

Greece has rejected the accord, which it says encroaches on its maritime rights.
