Oman ports record strong growth in first half of 2025

Oman’s ports posted solid growth in ship traffic, container handling, and cargo volume during the first half of 2025, according to figures released by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, cited by Oman Observer.

Oman’s ports posted solid growth in ship traffic, container handling, and cargo volume during the first half of 2025, according to figures released by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, cited by Oman Observer.

Container throughput at Salalah, Sohar, and Duqm reached 2.42 million TEUs, up 11.7% from the same period in 2024. Ship arrivals also rose by 11.1%, with 6,586 vessels received across Omani ports, led by Sultan Qaboos, Shinas, and Salalah.

Total cargo volume climbed to 70.1 million tonnes, an increase of 5.2% year-on-year, while ports handled 50,248 vehicles and nearly 2.7 million livestock, underscoring their role in supporting diverse economic activities.

To boost infrastructure, the ministry has launched consultancy projects for the development of Khor Jarama and the rehabilitation of Shannah and Masirah ports, aiming to strengthen Oman’s logistics competitiveness.
