Pakistan and Kuwait signed a defense cooperation protocol Thursday aimed at "significantly strengthening" their military ties, Pakistan's defense ministry said.
The agreement was signed during a visit to Pakistan by Kuwaiti Defense Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, who met with his Pakistani counterpart Khawaja Asif and army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir in Rawalpindi, regional media reported.
Under the protocol, Pakistan's armed forces will assist Kuwait in training, capacity building, border management, and other areas of defense cooperation.
Pakistan's defense ministry said the "2026 Memorandum of Understanding" significantly reinforces the military cooperation framework established under a defense agreement signed by the two countries in June 2023.
The deal comes weeks after Kuwait ratified that earlier agreement, and as Pakistan has also joined Saudi Arabia and Turkey in a separate mutual defense pact, amid rising tensions across the Middle East.
