Five handguns were found in a vehicle attempting to cross from Jordan into Israel, and a suspect has been arrested.

Police and customs officials in Eilat foiled the smuggling of five Glock pistols hidden in the vehicle of a man trying to enter Israel through the Rabin Border Crossing near the city.

The weapons, suspected to be intended for use by terrorist or criminal elements, were discovered in the vehicle of a man in his 40s from the town of Segev Shalom.

The suspect was arrested and taken in for further investigation, with his detention extended until Thursday.
