Lebanese President Joseph Aoun received a Palestinian delegation at Baabda Palace on Friday, led by Yasser Abbas, special representative of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
During the meeting, Aoun stressed the need to respect Lebanese government decisions on the state's monopoly over weapons, as well as the agreement reached on disarming Palestinian refugee camps.
He emphasized the importance of the Palestinian side committing to cooperate with Lebanese security agencies in implementing the plan decided by the Lebanese government.
The disarmament of Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon began in August 2025, following an agreement signed in May of that year between Aoun and Mahmoud Abbas.
Since then, several episodes of weapons handovers have taken place in various camps across the country, though the process has repeatedly drawn criticism for failing to translate into genuine, comprehensive disarmament.
