A bus crash in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula killed 22 people and injured 28 on Wednesday, according to an updated toll from the health ministry, in a country plagued by aging infrastructure and frequent road deaths.
Ten Jordanians were among the victims, official Jordanian broadcaster Al-Mamlaka reported, adding that the vehicle was carrying 43 people in total, including 22 Jordanian nationals.
The accident occurred on the road connecting the tourist towns of Dahab and Nuweiba. Twenty ambulances were dispatched to the scene to evacuate the injured and provide first aid, the Egyptian health ministry said.
Such accidents are common in Egypt and are often attributed to dangerous driving, poorly maintained vehicles and roads, and uneven enforcement of traffic laws.
