Jordan’s leadership has reiterated the Kingdom’s long-standing commitment to religious freedom and peaceful coexistence as Christians in Jordan and around the world prepare to celebrate Christmas.
King Abdullah II on Wednesday extended Christmas greetings to Christians during a meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace with Christian and Muslim religious leaders from Jordan and Jerusalem. The meeting underscored Jordan’s role as a defender of interfaith harmony and mutual respect among followers of different religions.
In a similar message, Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II conveyed his best wishes to members of the Christian community on Tuesday.
Speaking during a Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Peace Square in Madaba, Al Hussein described Jordan as a model of fellowship and tolerance, expressing hope that the New Year would bring continued prosperity and stability to the Kingdom and its people.
Speakers at the ceremony highlighted core Jordanian values rooted in harmony, peace, and mutual understanding, noting that the country offers the world a living example of coexistence and shared humanity.
Christians account for an estimated 3% to 6% of Jordan’s population of around 10 million. The community continues to enjoy full citizenship rights and plays an active role in Jordan’s social, political, and economic life.
Jordan’s inclusive approach, supported at the highest levels, reinforces its reputation as a beacon of religious tolerance in the region, affirming that coexistence remains a cornerstone of the Hashemite Kingdom’s identity.
