The UAE Cybersecurity Council has issued a public warning regarding the rising misuse of deepfake technology, urging citizens to remain vigilant against artificial intelligence-generated videos and audio designed to mislead and deceive.

According to the Council, deepfakes — hyper-realistic digital fabrications replicating real people’s voices and appearances — are becoming increasingly sophisticated with the advancement of AI tools. Such content, the Council warned, poses a serious risk to public trust by spreading false or harmful information.

The Council called on the public to act responsibly when engaging with digital content and to avoid sharing material of questionable authenticity. It emphasized the importance of verifying any media attributed to public figures or national institutions through official and reliable channels.

Raising awareness, the Council said, is the first and most effective line of defense against digital misinformation. It plays a vital role in protecting the integrity of the UAE’s national symbols and official entities.

The Council also highlighted that Federal Decree-Law No. (34) of 2021 on Countering Rumors and Cybercrimes includes strict penalties for those who create or disseminate deepfake content, in line with the country’s broader efforts to combat cybercrime, fake news, and online deception.
