Egypt became the first team to qualify for the knockout stage of CAF Africa Cup of Nations, edging South Africa 1–0 on Friday night at Agadir Stadium.

The hard-fought victory keeps Egypt national football team perfect in Group B with six points from two matches, sealing a top-two finish with one game still to play. South Africa, meanwhile, stay on three points after another frustrating outing in front of goal.

In the group’s other match, Angola national football team and Zimbabwe national football team shared the spoils in a 1–1 draw in Marrakech. Both sides picked up their first points of the tournament, but the result leaves qualification finely balanced heading into the final round of fixtures.

Attention now shifts to Group A, where hosts Morocco national football team face a crucial test against Mali national football team in Casablanca.

A win for Morocco would put them firmly in control of the group and send the home fans into celebration as the tournament gathers pace.
