Ahead of a high-level international summit on the Gaza ceasefire, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi declared on Monday that U.S. President Donald Trump is “the only one capable of bringing peace” to the region.

“You are the only one capable of bringing peace to our region,” Sisi told Trump during their meeting in Sharm el-Sheikh, the Red Sea resort city in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

The meeting took place shortly before the opening of a major summit on the future of the Gaza ceasefire, co-hosted by Egypt and the United States. The summit brings together 31 leaders from various countries and international organizations, all seeking a sustainable political solution to the ongoing crisis.

The Egyptian president’s remarks highlight Cairo’s continued strategic positioning as a key mediator in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and its growing alignment with Trump’s potential return to international diplomacy.
