Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi issued a presidential decree on Monday pardoning 4,466 convicts, citing considerations of health and humanitarian circumstances.
The decision was made in commemoration of the January 25 celebrations, a significant date in the country’s history.
This is not the first time al-Sisi has issued such a decree. Last October, he pardoned a number of inmates on the occasion of the anniversary of Egypt’s victory in the October War.
The decree, which demonstrates the government’s approach to balancing justice with compassion, was published in the official gazette, as is customary for such decisions.
