Passenger traffic at Egyptian airports increased by 9% in 2024 compared to the previous year, according to a report by the Middle East News Agency, citing data from the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

The total number of passengers passing through Egyptian airports in 2024 reached 22.097 million, up from 20.276 million in 2023. Similarly, the number of flights also experienced growth, increasing by 3% to 167,684 flights in 2024, compared to 162,773 flights the year before.

Cairo International Airport, the country’s busiest hub, recorded the most significant growth.

In 2024, the airport handled 28.775 million passengers, a notable rise from 26.463 million passengers in 2023. The number of flights also surged, with 211,664 flights recorded in 2024 compared to 198,943 flights in the previous year.

The growth in passenger traffic and flight numbers reflects the recovery of the aviation sector in Egypt, driven by increased tourism, business travel, and international connectivity. This improvement aligns with global trends as air travel rebounds following disruptions caused by the pandemic.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation credited the rise to enhanced infrastructure at Egyptian airports, improved services, and policies aimed at boosting tourism and international partnerships.

The surge in passenger traffic is a positive indicator for Egypt’s broader economy, particularly the tourism and hospitality sectors. As a gateway for millions of travelers, Cairo International Airport plays a pivotal role in connecting Egypt to global markets and fostering economic growth.

With continued investments in airport infrastructure and efforts to expand air services, Egypt is poised to sustain its aviation growth trajectory.
