Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be tried as a war criminal over Israel's ongoing offensive in the Gaza Strip.

In a speech to a meeting of an Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) committee in Istanbul, Erdogan said that Gaza is Palestinian land and will always belong to the Palestinians.

Erdogan has adopted a very tough stance towards Israel. He considers Hamas as a political organization. His statements are primarily aimed at strengthening his domestic public opinion and gaining support from the Arab world.
