The 12th Abu Dhabi Strategic Debate (ADSD), organized by the Emirates Policy Center (EPC), concluded today after two intense days of high-level discussions on the global strategic order and regional transformations, particularly in the Middle East.

Held on November 10–11, the event gathered prominent policymakers, diplomats, researchers, and regional experts from across the globe.

This year’s edition placed a spotlight on the post-October 7 strategic environment in the Middle East, with a sharp focus on the Israel-Iran military confrontation, the Gaza conflict, and shifting power dynamics across Syria, Lebanon, and the wider Arab Levant.

Speakers analyzed the geopolitical impact of Iran’s declining regional influence, emerging alliances, and how recent events are reshaping the future of the region. The evolving status of the Iranian nuclear file and Tehran’s relations with neighboring countries were also central to the debate.

Key panels explored scenarios for Gaza’s reconstruction, possible frameworks for governance, and the broader implications of the conflict on Palestinian statehood.

Experts also evaluated Israel’s internal challenges, including political fragmentation and the fallout from multiple military engagements, questioning what lies ahead for Israel’s regional standing and its identity as a Jewish state.

Strategic Shifts in Syria and Lebanon

The ADSD further tackled Syria’s potential transition beyond the Assad regime and state restoration in Lebanon, highlighting the mounting pressure on both countries amidst a rebalancing of regional power. Participants discussed reconstruction, governance, and the role of international actors in facilitating stability.

UAE: A Key Player in Regional Dialogue

The UAE, which maintains diplomatic ties with Israel through the Abraham Accords, continues to position itself as a bridge-builder and thought leader in the region.

By hosting the ADSD, Abu Dhabi reaffirms its commitment to open dialogue, strategic foresight, and peaceful diplomacy in navigating complex regional challenges.
