According to the Wall Street Journal, the number of people killed during the Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia, has already risen to over 1,170. 

The death toll is expected to rise, as hundreds of people are still listed as missing and many others are hospitalized. 

The pilgrimage began at the end of last week and ended earlier this week. Nearly two million Muslims came to pray at the site, and they did so under extreme heat with temperatures at around 52 degrees.
