Nahdiya Safieddine, the mother of Hezbollah's Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, has passed away, as announced by the party and the al-Manar television channel on Saturday evening. The brief statement from the Shiite party indicated that "the place and date" of the funeral would be announced at a later time.

According to several Lebanese media outlets, Nahdiya Safieddine died after a long illness. Her death marks a significant moment for the Hezbollah leader, who is known for his reclusive nature.

Hassan Nasrallah has made very few public appearances since the 2006 war between Hezbollah and Israel. His rare public engagements have often been limited to televised speeches and carefully controlled events due to security concerns.

A message of condolences from Iran, which created and has supported Hezbollah since 1982, is awaited.
