Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is set to travel to Oman in the coming days to participate in a regional conference, the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced on Friday.
According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei, Araghchi will visit Muscat following an official invitation to attend the 8th Indian Ocean Conference, which is being jointly organized by Oman, India, and Singapore. The conference is scheduled to take place on Sunday and Monday.
While the exact date of Araghchi’s arrival remains unspecified, Baqaei confirmed that the minister would also hold bilateral meetings with several counterparts and officials attending the event.
Oman has long played a mediatory role between Iran and Western nations, particularly in tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear program. This visit comes as U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated a desire to strike a deal with Iran regarding its nuclear ambitions.
“I prefer that to bombing it,” Trump told the New York Post last Friday.
Since resuming office in January, Trump has reinstated his ‘maximum pressure’ policy on Tehran, citing concerns over Iran’s alleged pursuit of nuclear weapons—claims Iran has repeatedly denied.
