An Israeli strike on Wednesday night destroyed an office used by the pro-Iran Al-Mayadeen broadcaster, a Lebanese security source told Reuters.
Two other security sources confirmed the office had been hit in an Israeli strike on a multi-story building.
Al-Mayadeen is a Lebanese pan-Arabist television station that was launched in June 2012. It is headquartered in Beirut, Lebanon and operates with a regional focus on Middle Eastern and international news. The channel was founded by Ghassan Ben Jeddou, a former prominent journalist at Al Jazeera, who left the network, reportedly due to disagreements over its coverage of the Arab Spring.
Al-Mayadeen is often regarded as having a pro-resistance or pro-Iranian editorial stance, supporting Hezbollah, the Syrian government under Bashar al-Assad, and other anti-Western or anti-Israeli resistance movements. It has positioned itself as an alternative to Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya, which are perceived to reflect Qatari and Saudi policies, respectively.
Due to its editorial line, Al-Mayadeen has been criticized by Western media and some Arab states for being a mouthpiece for Iran, Hezbollah, and the Syrian regime.
