Jordan's King Abdullah II spoke by phone Friday with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, discussing Lebanon, including the framework agreement between Beirut and Israel signed in late June and the disarmament of Hezbollah, according to official US and Jordanian statements.
The content of those discussions was not detailed by the Jordanian royal palace.
The king also raised the results of recent meetings of the Aqaba process in France, aimed at mobilizing international support for the Lebanese army and strengthening its capabilities to preserve Lebanon's security and stability.
They followed the preparatory meeting for a conference on supporting the Lebanese army, held in Paris on September 17, where Jordan was the only country besides France and Lebanon represented at the highest level. The Lebanese government has been urging its army to disarm Hezbollah for more than a year.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam told Rubio on Monday that a "clear timetable" was needed to implement the framework agreement, as Israel-Lebanon negotiations have stalled for months and Israeli attacks continue in southern Lebanon.
Abdullah stressed the need for "a comprehensive ceasefire agreement guaranteeing the security and sovereignty of Arab states," and the central role of the United States in supporting regional stability, the palace said.
He again criticized Israel's escalation in southern Syria and reaffirmed Jordan's support for Syria's security and territorial integrity. Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, Israel has extended its grip in southern Syria, edging closer to Jordan's northern border.
