King Abdullah II of Jordan reaffirmed his country’s solidarity with the Syrian people on Sunday, emphasizing respect for their will and choices. Chairing a National Security Council meeting, the King highlighted the importance of safeguarding Syria’s security and ensuring the safety and stability of its citizens.
Abdullah stressed the need to act swiftly to maintain stability in Syria and prevent any escalation of conflict that could lead to chaos. He reiterated Jordan’s longstanding commitment to supporting its Syrian neighbors during their time of need.
“Jordan has always stood by its Syrian brothers and sisters since the beginning of the crisis,” said the King, referencing over a decade of Jordan's efforts to host Syrian refugees and provide them with access to education, healthcare, and other essential services, equivalent to those offered to Jordanian citizens.
The King commended the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army and the country’s security agencies for their relentless efforts in protecting Jordan’s borders and ensuring national security amidst the regional challenges posed by the Syrian conflict. He stressed their continued commitment to safeguarding the well-being of Jordan and its people.
Since the start of the Syrian crisis, Jordan has been a key destination for refugees fleeing the conflict. The country has hosted hundreds of thousands of Syrians, offering them refuge and access to public services despite significant economic and social pressures.
King Abdullah’s remarks reflect Jordan’s role as a stabilizing force in the region and its commitment to fostering security and cooperation. His call to avoid further conflict and ensure stability in Syria aligns with broader regional and international efforts to address the ongoing crisis.
As Syria navigates a period of uncertainty and potential transformation, Jordan’s continued support underscores its dedication to humanitarian principles and regional security.
