King Abdullah II of Jordan has departed on a working visit to Strasbourg, France, where he is scheduled to address the European Parliament on Tuesday.

According to the Royal Hashemite Court, the King’s visit comes at a pivotal time for regional and global diplomacy, with issues such as the Middle East conflict, international security, energy cooperation, and migration expected to feature prominently in his speech.

Abdullah II has long been recognized as a moderate and stabilizing figure in Middle Eastern politics, often advocating for peaceful solutions to regional disputes, notably the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and championing interfaith dialogue and counter-extremism.

His address to the European Parliament is expected to emphasize the importance of continued EU-Jordan cooperation, particularly in areas such as security, trade, sustainable development, and regional stability.

Strengthening EU–Jordan Relations

The visit also aims to reinforce Jordan's strategic partnership with the European Union, especially in light of shared concerns about geopolitical tensions, climate resilience, and economic recovery in the post-pandemic landscape.

King Abdullah is likely to meet with top EU officials and Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) during his stay, underlining Jordan’s role as a key regional ally and a bridge between East and West.

This marks the King’s latest diplomatic effort to rally international support for de-escalation in the Middle East, amid growing concerns about the regional implications of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.
