Lebanon's Civil Defence issued a statement Saturday warning against "the risks associated with swimming and all types of water activities and sports along the coastline, from Abdeh (Akkar, far north) to Naqoura in the south, today and tomorrow Sunday."
The statement pointed to "very high waves and intensifying sea currents, significantly increasing the risk of potentially fatal drownings."
Météo-Liban, for its part, announced an unusual rain event this weekend, expected to begin around midday Saturday and continue through Sunday evening.
Intense rainfall, and possibly hail, are forecast across various Lebanese regions, with temperatures dropping starting Saturday evening. The atmospheric depression stems from a cold air mass originating from Turkey.
