As his domestic political role diminishes, French President Emmanuel Macron is focusing his efforts on the global stage. From December 2 to 4, Macron will visit Saudi Arabia at the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman (MBS).

While Paris struggles to exert influence over the Middle East conflict, Saudi Arabia remains a key player in the region. Macron’s visit underscores a pragmatic recognition of Riyadh’s geopolitical weight, particularly in mediating tensions and shaping outcomes in the Middle East.

The visit is an opportunity for France to strengthen its strategic ties with Saudi Arabia and to align on broader regional priorities.

On December 3, Macron will attend the One Water Summit in Riyadh, organized alongside the COP16 on combating desertification. Co-chaired by France and Kazakhstan, the summit aims to address water management challenges in an era of escalating climate crises and global water shortages.

The Élysée has emphasized the summit’s focus on sustainable and innovative solutions to ensure resilient water resource management. This event represents France’s broader commitment to fostering global cooperation on environmental sustainability and addressing urgent climate-related issues.
