French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he will pay a state visit to Egypt on April 7 and 8, with the primary objective of discussing the Arab initiative to rebuild Gaza, endorsed by several countries in the region on March 4.
The Arab-led plan, spearheaded by Egypt and other Arab nations, aims to provide a credible alternative to the widely criticized proposal by the former U.S. administration under Donald Trump, which suggested the permanent displacement of Gaza’s population to Egypt and Jordan.
Instead, this initiative focuses on rebuilding Gaza while ensuring that Palestinians remain on their land, supporting a phased, organized reconstruction effort that respects the territorial and social integrity of the enclave.
Reconstruction is scheduled in three main phases over five years, with a broader vision extending to 2030.
Macron’s visit comes amid renewed waves of Israeli airstrikes.
Macron’s upcoming visit to Cairo is seen as a political signal of support for the Arab plan and a recommitment to a just, sustainable solution for Gaza that respects Palestinian sovereignty—countering proposals based on annexation or forced displacement.
