Mahmoud Abbas expected in Ankara on Tuesday

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is set to visit Turkey on Tuesday at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, announced Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Sunday.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is set to visit Turkey on Tuesday at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, announced Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Sunday.

"President Erdogan has invited Mr. Abbas to Turkey to discuss the situation in Palestine and the ongoing war, and to be briefed on the inter-Palestinian talks" with the Banda and other Palestinian groups, stated the Foreign Minister at the conclusion of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum in the south. The location of the meetings has not been specified.

Hakan Fidan also confirmed that "negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza are ongoing through intermediaries," with, according to him, "a genuine desire and real effort to achieve a ceasefire before Ramadan."
