The third-ranking member of the Palestinian Hamas group was killed last week during an Israeli military operation in Gaza, the White House announced on Monday.

"Marwan Issa was killed in an Israeli operation last week," said Jake Sullivan, the national security advisor to the U.S. executive, during a press conference.

The incident marks a significant development in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestinian factions in Gaza. Marwan Issa was widely regarded as a key figure within the Hamas group, responsible for orchestrating and coordinating various activities, including attacks against Israeli targets.

Alongside Yahya Sinwar, Hamas's leader in Gaza, Issa is believed to have played a central role in orchestrating the group's activities, including the October 7 attack in southern Israel that triggered the recent conflict.

The next on the list are Yahya Sinwar, the leader of the movement in Gaza and Mohammed Deif.
