Tens of thousands of Moroccans marched through central Rabat on Sunday to protest what they described as the “unbearable” humanitarian conditions in Gaza and to reject Morocco’s normalization of relations with Israel.

Waving Palestinian flags and holding banners calling for an end to the Israeli blockade on Gaza, demonstrators filled one of the capital’s main avenues.

The protest was organized by the Islamist movement Al Adl Wal Ihssane alongside several left-wing political parties.

Notably, the rally made no mention of the Israeli hostages still held in Gaza, nor did any protesters condemn Hamas—the group widely blamed for triggering the latest war in the enclave with its October 7 attacks on Israeli civilians.

While Morocco maintains full diplomatic relations with Israel under the U.S.-brokered Abraham Accords signed in 2020, it also preserves close and ongoing ties with the Palestinian Authority.

Official diplomatic channels between Rabat and Jerusalem remain open, and cooperation continues in several areas.
