The Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, is set to visit Paris on Tuesday and Wednesday for discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron. The primary focus of their talks will be on negotiations aimed at securing a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
This visit marks the first State visit of the Qatari Emir to the French capital since ascending to the throne in 2013, as announced by the Elysée Palace.
President Macron's office highlighted the importance of Qatar's involvement in efforts to secure the release of hostages, especially in light of three French nationals still held captive in Gaza since the unprecedented attack by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas on Israel on October 7.
The discussions will also address ongoing efforts, in collaboration with the United States and Egypt, to achieve a cessation of hostilities between Israel and Hamas.
A previous week-long ceasefire in late November facilitated the release of numerous hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.
Additionally, the French presidency disclosed plans for a forthcoming humanitarian operation with Qatar, scheduled to take place in the coming days.
This operation will involve multiple flights transporting essential aid, including ten ambulances, over 300 tents, and humanitarian supplies, to assist the population of Gaza.
The Emir's visit underscores Qatar's active role in regional diplomacy and humanitarian efforts, particularly concerning the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
