The Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club (ADMSC) is set to kick off the new season of traditional marine racing with the highly anticipated Yas Dhows Sailing Race (22ft Category) tomorrow, Saturday.

The event will feature 60 traditional dhows and over 300 sailors and skippers, reflecting a strong turnout and competitive spirit in the sport.

The race will commence at 2:30 PM from the waters off Lulu Island, covering a 7-nautical-mile course that will conclude in front of the iconic Abu Dhabi Corniche Flagpole. The competition promises thrilling action as participants navigate the waters in pursuit of victory.

Significant prize money totaling AED 549,000 has been allocated to reward the winners and top finishers, with special recognition for the top three teams. This generous prize pool is part of the Club’s ongoing efforts to promote traditional marine sports and encourage greater participation from emerging talent.

The 22ft dhow category holds a special place in Emirati maritime heritage, serving as an entry point for young sailors eager to hone their skills and eventually compete in the elite 60ft category. The races in this division are known for their vibrant energy, as sailors strive to demonstrate their capabilities and advance within the sport.

The ADMSC has finalized all logistical and technical preparations to ensure a smooth and successful event. Comprehensive safety and compliance checks will be conducted on all participating dhows at the starting point to guarantee adherence to race regulations and guidelines.

This event underscores Abu Dhabi’s dedication to preserving and promoting the UAE’s rich maritime traditions while fostering new generations of skilled sailors.
