Schools in Riyadh will operate remotely for a week amid a surge in attacks by Yemen's Houthi rebels on Saudi Arabia, according to emails sent to parents on Sunday.
Iran-backed Houthi fighters launched fresh attacks on Saudi Arabia on Saturday, targeting Riyadh and Khamis Mushait, a city in the southwest that hosts a major air base. Saudi armed forces said they intercepted drones and ballistic missiles fired from Yemen.
After several years of relative calm, Yemen plunged back into war in July, opening a new front in the broader Middle East conflict.
The fighting pits the Houthi, who control the capital Sanaa and Yemen's Red Sea coastline, against the internationally recognized government, exiled in the southern city of Aden and controlling much of the south and east, backed by a Saudi-led military coalition.
