Spain's Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Alvarez said that his country is in favor of recognizing a Palestinian state "in the very near term."

Spain's Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Alvarez said that his country is in favor of recognizing a Palestinian state "in the very near term." 

He added that Spain is ready to hold a peace conference on the issue, and claimed: "The existence of a Palestinian state will be the best guarantee for peace in the Middle East."
