Syria and Egypt hold first official talks

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani announced on Tuesday a phone call with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, marking the first official contact reported between the two nations. 

During the call, the two diplomats emphasized the significant roles their countries play in fostering stability and prosperity in the region.

“I am pleased with the call from Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, during which he highlighted the importance of the roles of both countries in achieving regional stability and prosperity,” al-Shibani wrote on his X account.

This exchange signifies a potential warming of ties between Syria and Egypt, two key players in the Middle East. Relations between the two nations have experienced strains in recent years due to the Syrian conflict and broader geopolitical shifts. However, the dialogue suggests a shared interest in addressing regional challenges collaboratively.
