Syrian Liberal Party: Delisting is a beginning, not an end

The Syrian Liberal Party has expressed profound appreciation to President Donald Trump and the US Administration for the historic decision to formally rescind Syria's designation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism.

In a statement signed by party president Fahad Al-Masri, the party called the move a major step toward Syria's reintegration into the international community, opening a new chapter in Syrian-American relations.

The statement stresses, however, that lifting the designation is not the end of the process but the beginning of a new phase—one requiring serious, comprehensive efforts to address the legacy of decades of isolation, sanctions, conflict, and unresolved legal disputes.

The party is calling on Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani to launch a full-fledged Syrian-American dialogue aimed at resolving outstanding judgments, claims, and legal proceedings pending in the United States. Such a dialogue, the statement argues, should uphold justice for victims while protecting the Syrian state, its institutions, and its assets, ensuring that inherited legal disputes do not obstruct investment, reconstruction, and Syria's full reintegration into the international financial system.

The party is urging a comprehensive and final settlement of these matters, drawing on international precedents and established legal mechanisms to distinguish enforceable claims from those that are not, within a clear and mutually agreed legal framework.

For Al-Masri, the new Syria cannot build a secure and prosperous future while carrying the unresolved burdens of its past.

He called on the Syrian state to seize what he described as a historic, possibly unrepeatable opportunity to build a strategic relationship with the United States grounded in mutual interests, sovereign equality, and mutual respect.

"It is time for Syria to return to the world, and for the world to return to Syria," the statement concludes, calling for a new Syrian state built on the rule of law, competent institutions, and unwavering commitment to the national interest.
