The Syrian Liberal Party, led by Fahad Al-Masri, has issued a bold and urgent appeal to Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa, calling for formal legal action against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The party is demanding $500 billion in compensation for what it describes as “grave human and material losses” inflicted on Syria due to Iran’s military involvement in the country’s civil war.
In a comprehensive policy proposal released this week, the Syrian Liberal Party lays out a seven-point legal and diplomatic strategy aimed at holding Iran legally, politically, and internationally accountable for its actions through armed militias and direct interference in Syria’s internal affairs.
The Party accuses Iran and its proxy militias of committing war crimes, crimes against humanity, destruction of entire cities, and the forcible displacement of Syrian civilians.
It insists that Iran, as a foreign actor engaged in aggression, should be legally obligated under international law to compensate the Syrian people and the state for the resulting devastation.
“A state that facilitates or participates in crimes against humanity must be held accountable and provide full reparation under international law,” the statement reads.
A Call for National Action
The party proposes the creation of a National Task Force made up of legal experts, judicial authorities, victims’ representatives, and diplomats to carry the campaign forward.
The group would be tasked with developing and publicizing progress on the compensation demands, reinforcing the importance of transitional justice and national dignity.
“This is not only a legal demand, but a moral obligation to all Syrians who have suffered,” said Fahad Al-Masri, leader of the Syrian Liberal Party. “Justice requires more than words—it demands action, accountability, and compensation.”
The party’s proposal comes as tensions between Iran and the Syrian government escalate over Tehran’s reported demands for financial repayment from the Assad regime.
In contrast, the Syrian Liberal Party argues that **Iran owes Syria—**not the other way around.
