Party led by Fahad Al Masri demands accountability for Sweida killings
The Syrian Liberal Party, led by Fahad Al Masri, has issued a strong condemnation of what it describes as horrific crimes committed in Sweida.
The party states that the killings of Sheikh Raed Al Mutini and Sheikh Maher Falhout are part of a wider pattern of systematic violations that threaten civil peace and the rights of civilians.
In the statement, the party places full legal and political responsibility on the armed groups operating outside the law under the influence of Hikmat Al Hijri. According to the party, these groups act with force, block state institutions, and impose control on the population.
The SLP says the actions of these groups now represent one of the most serious threats to Syria’s national security and to the safety of citizens in the governorate.
The party argues that the situation in Sweida is not a set of isolated incidents. It points instead to a consistent pattern that includes kidnapping, raids, unlawful arrests, torture, and the obstruction of government authority. These acts, the statement notes, fall under major violations of human rights according to international standards.
The Syrian Liberal Party also warns that Sweida continues to be dominated by a local power that has rejected dialogue, monopolized decision making through force, and provided safe haven for individuals linked to war crimes.
The party says this has contributed directly to rising tensions, humanitarian suffering, and serious violations across the region.
Fahad Al Masri and the SLP call on the international community to recognize the dangers created by the absence of state authority in Sweida.
They urge stronger and more decisive steps to ensure the return of state institutions in order to restore law, security, and stability for all residents.
The party stresses that national treason is not a matter of opinion and insists that no individual should be placed above accountability.
It reaffirms that Syrian sovereignty, civil peace, and the dignity of the Syrian people remain red lines. According to the statement, achieving transitional justice and bringing all perpetrators to court, regardless of affiliation, is essential for building lasting peace and ensuring the rule of law throughout Syria.
