Saudi Arabia is set to host a new ATP Masters 1000 tournament starting in 2028, marking a historic first expansion of the elite tennis category since its inception 35 years ago.

The announcement was made Thursday by the ATP and SURJ Sports Investment, a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), which is leading the initiative.

With this move, Saudi Arabia becomes the 10th host of a Masters 1000 event, joining the ranks of Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo, Madrid, Rome, Toronto/Montreal, Cincinnati, Shanghai, and Paris.

This development further underscores the Kingdom’s growing footprint in international sports and aligns with its broader strategy to diversify its economy and boost its global presence in major athletic events.

Details regarding the tournament's location and surface are expected to be announced in the coming months.
