The United States carried out fresh strikes on Iranian missile and air defense systems Sunday, also targeting small Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) speed boats at several locations around the Strait of Hormuz, Axios reported, citing a senior US official.

The United States carried out fresh strikes on Iranian missile and air defense systems Sunday, also targeting small Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) speed boats at several locations around the Strait of Hormuz, Axios reported, citing a senior US official.

The strikes came as Iran's IRNA state news agency reported that missiles were launched by the "enemy" toward Qeshm Island on Sunday afternoon, with no casualties reported. Qeshm township governor Hossein Amir Teymouri told IRNA that between 10 and 11 "enemy projectiles" had struck the island, calling all the targets "military."

US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed it had completed a third round of strikes against Iran this week, hitting around 140 Iranian military sites in what it described as a response to attacks on commercial vessels transiting the strait.

According to CENTCOM, the operation targeted Iranian missile and drone sites, naval capabilities, ammunition storage facilities, communication networks and coastal surveillance locations, using precision weapons launched from land- and sea-based aircraft, drones and naval vessels. Over three nights, CENTCOM said, US forces have now struck more than 300 targets.

Explosions were also reported elsewhere along Iran's southern coast, including in Bushehr province, Bandar Abbas and Sirik.

The IRGC said it launched retaliatory strikes on Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan, while missile alert sirens sounded in Bahrain and Qatar's Ministry of Defense said it intercepted a missile attack targeting the country. The UAE said it was responding to missile and drone threats but reported no impact on its territory.

The exchange of strikes marks a sharp escalation of hostilities between Washington and Tehran, threatening to collapse the fragile ceasefire reached last month after President Donald Trump declared the agreement "over" earlier in the week.

Despite the fighting, CENTCOM said commercial vessels continue to transit the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route.
