US President Donald Trump launched a new broadside against Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Sunday, calling him a "liar, weak and pathetic" in an interview with Israeli channel Channel 14, as reported by Haaretz.

Speaking to White House correspondent Libby Alon, Trump claimed Herzog had agreed to pardon Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, currently on trial in three corruption cases,  "but never did it."

"He is a weak person and a pathetic man. He is not a leader," Trump declared, adding: "Bibi should focus on the war, not on nonsense."

Netanyahu officially requested a presidential pardon in late November, backed by Trump's public support. Herzog had previously stated he would consider "only the good of the state and society" in making his decision,  and in February said the pardon request was under examination while refusing any external pressure.
