President Donald Trump announced that Iran has committed to never obtaining a nuclear weapon, whether by building or buying one, marking a potentially significant breakthrough in negotiations to end the US-Iran war.

Speaking in an interview with Lara Trump aired Saturday on Fox News, the president described how the commitment evolved during talks. "They had first said 'we will not develop a nuclear weapon.' I said 'okay, but what if you bought one?' Now they're saying 'we will not develop, and will not acquire one in any way,'" he explained.

However, the diplomatic picture remains murky. The New York Times reported Saturday that Trump had hardened his proposal and sent a revised draft to Tehran, with Axios adding that the president wants tougher language on several issues he considers personally critical, particularly the fate of Iran's existing nuclear materials.

The gap between a headline commitment and the fine print of a final agreement remains wide, and for now, a deal remains unsigned.
