Austria and Slovakia have officially announced their support for the candidacy of Khaled El-Enany, Egypt’s former Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, for the position of Director-General of UNESCO.

El-Enany, a prominent academic and heritage expert, has steadily gained international momentum in his bid for the leadership of the UN cultural agency. With the endorsement from Austria and Slovakia, his candidacy continues to attract growing diplomatic support across continents.

The Egyptian nominee already enjoys the backing of France, Germany, Spain, Brazil, Turkey, Gabon, Djibouti, as well as the African Union and the League of Arab States.

El-Enany is widely recognized for his efforts to promote cultural heritage, inter-civilizational dialogue, and tourism development during his tenure in Egypt, and he has been an active voice on the global stage advocating for the protection of world heritage sites.

The selection process for UNESCO’s next Director-General is set to intensify in the coming months, as more countries weigh their positions ahead of the final vote.
