U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is set to travel to Jordan on Wednesday and then to Turkey for high-level discussions on Syria following the ousting of Bashar al-Assad, the State Department announced.

On Thursday, Blinken will participate in talks in Aqaba, Jordan, on the Red Sea, followed by meetings on Friday in Ankara, Turkey. The discussions aim to emphasize U.S. support for a “Syrian-led, inclusive transition to a responsible and representative government,” said State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller in a statement.

Blinken is also expected to address critical issues for Syria's future.

In addition to the Syrian discussions, Blinken plans to emphasize “the urgent need for a ceasefire agreement in Gaza that ensures the release of hostages” still held by Hamas, according to Miller.
