El-Sisi highlights Egypt’s role in Middle East mediation

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met on Wednesday with Irish President Michael D. Higgins in Dublin to discuss bilateral relations and pressing international issues.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met on Wednesday with Irish President Michael D. Higgins in Dublin to discuss bilateral relations and pressing international issues.

El-Sisi emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between Egypt and Ireland across various sectors of mutual interest. He highlighted the need to bolster trade and investment between the two countries through the organization of trade missions and business delegations.

The two leaders also exchanged views on the volatile situation in the Middle East. Discussions centered the repercussions of Bashar al-Assad's fall from power in Syria, and the urgent need to establish a ceasefire in Gaza. 

Both presidents expressed concern over the humanitarian crisis and emphasized the importance of securing the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas for over a year.
