France on Friday signed a defense cooperation agreement with Bahrain during a visit to Paris by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, who was received by President Emmanuel Macron, the Élysée Palace announced.
The agreement establishes cooperation in defense equipment, training, joint exercises, and the exchange of strategic information, according to the French presidency. Officials said it is also expected to open up new opportunities for industrial cooperation in the defense sector.
During a working lunch at the Élysée, the two leaders also discussed cross-investment between Paris and Manama.
According to Macron’s office, Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund, Mumtalakat, will take part in Choose France, the annual investment summit hosted by the French president each spring at Palace of Versailles to attract foreign investors.
The participation could lead to investment announcements in France in areas of shared interest, the presidency said, without providing further details.
