Germany has officially expressed its support for Khaled El-Enany’s candidacy for the position of Director-General of UNESCO, reinforcing the growing international momentum behind his bid.

The announcement was made during Khaled El-Enany’s visit to Berlin, where he engaged with intellectuals and high-ranking officials, including Katja Keul, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs.

During their meeting, Katja Keul and Khaled El-Enany exchanged views on the future of UNESCO, emphasizing the need for a resilient, ambitious, and action-oriented organization. Their discussions focused on education for all, cultural heritage preservation, science and innovation, and press freedom—key areas that UNESCO must strengthen to address global challenges effectively.

Khaled El-Enany underscored the need for UNESCO to act as a force for stability and innovation, particularly in today’s complex geopolitical climate.

Germany’s endorsement adds to the broad coalition of international supporters backing Khaled El-Enany’s candidacy, which already includes the African Union, the League of Arab States, France, Brazil, Spain, and Türkiye. T

his growing support reflects a shared commitment to reshaping UNESCO into a more inclusive, efficient institution dedicated to intercultural dialogue and international cooperation.

Further strengthening diplomatic backing for Khaled El-Enany, Gabon recently announced the withdrawal of its own candidacy and urged its supporters to rally behind El-Enany.

This move consolidates the international consensus around his vision for UNESCO and increases the likelihood of his election to the top post.
